If you are visiting Hong Kong on a honeymoon or just for a romantic getaway with your partner, here are some of the best places to visit in Hong Kong:

1. Lantau

Lantau is a very big Island. Apart from swimming and hiking, there are different attractions there. You can use Ngong Ping 360 degree cable car to go there. To some people it may seem expensive but the experience is really worthy. The journey is quite long to be satisfied and the view is really good. It drops you at the part of island near to the Tian Tan Buddha (The Big Buddha). If you are interested you can climb the stairs (around 250 steps) to go up and have a closer look of Buddha.

Or you can take a bus to visit the fishing village. Disney Land is also located in this island. Mui Wo is a super cute town on Lantau Island. It’s a short ferry ride from the Central Piers and offers another escape from city life. Silver Mine Bay Beach is large, quiet and perfect for a day of relaxing. The town is also great for exploring through quaint grassy pathways, small village like settlements and there’s even a waterfall.

2. Big Wave Bay

This is a perfect spot to spend time with your partner on a Hong Kong honeymoon. Big Wave Bay, has surprisingly clean water and a refreshingly quiet beach. Like other beaches, there is an area for barbecuing and a number of stores for beach purchases and food. It’s accessible via Taxi or Bus, and certainly worth the trip.

3. Hong Kong Observation Wheel

Installed at the Central Harbourfront, the Hong Kong Observation Wheel (HKOW) is a 60-metre Ferris wheel. It has 42 air-conditioned gondolas including a VIP gondola with glass floor. Feel butterflies in your stomach by taking a 15-minute ride with your partner. Catch some of the most splendid views of the city, on this giant observation wheel, that no other spot can offer.

4. Hong Kong Disneyland

Located on Lantau Island, Hong Kong Disneyland is the largest theme park in Hong Kong. Relive childhood with your partner in the most exciting way. Enter the world of fairytale fantasy, explore the castles and themed zones, and meet your favourite Disney characters. Offering an array of thrilling rides and exciting activities, this place totally deserves a mention in the Hong Kong honeymoon destinations guide.

Disneyland is the most famous and biggest theme park in Hong Kong. Disneyland Hong Kong and Ocean Park are two of the most visited spots in Hong Kong. Relieve the childhood memories with Disney characters. Disneyland is spread on above 160 acres land. Disneyland offers the most thrilling rides for every age group. Disneyland is full of surprises.

The fastest ride in Disneyland is Splash Mountain and not a roller coaster, this fact leaves most of the travellers in shock.

5. Peng Chau

Peng Chau is completely different from the other Islands. Lots of people actually live there with only few tourists. It is like a little city with all kind of facilities (super markets, post office, library etc). You can hike to the finger hill and enjoy the sun set from the top. The hiking trail was quite steep.

You can go to another little island named Tai Lei, which is connected to Peng Chau through a bridge. You can just visit there by walking! There is a small corner in Tai Lei beside the sea that they decorated with lots of toys. The islanders don’t just throw away the things they don’t need anymore. They put it to some corner of the island to make it beautiful.

6. Cheung Chau

It is all in one. You can hike as well as swim. The main advantage is beach is very near to the ferry pier, so you don’t need to walk. The Island has both quiet spaces as well as buildings where people live. Hike there actually downwards (not upwards) to go to a place really near to the sea. You can sit quietly and keep hearing the sound of waves. There are look out pavilions to sit and enjoy.

If you don’t like hiking you can rent bicycle or family tricycle at reasonable rate to roam around the island. Don’t miss the 3000 years old rock carving found at Cheung Chau. If you want more expensive experience, you can visit the private campsites such as Saiyuen camp site. There you can reside inside their luxurious tents to enjoy the starry night. They are equipped with all kinds of facilities including BBQ.

7. Tap Mun Island

Once you are there, you are far from the hustle and bustle of the town. You can truly enjoy the beauty of silence. May be this is not the best place if you are looking for a beach, but it is a very good place if you like to hike. Just go up, set your tent and enjoy the view of the sea from the top comfortably from your tent.

You can also stay at night to enjoy the wild camping. You will also enjoy the presence of lots of wild cows quietly walking beside you. Just keep your foods safe, they may want to eat that.

8. Lamma Island

Lamma is just opposite to the Tap Mun. If you want to visit a beach and you like the crowd, go to Lamma. It is full of tourists and souvenir shops which will promptly bring the holiday mood in you. It will need around 20 minutes of walk to reach the beach from the pier where the ferry has dropped you.

Lamma Island is the perfect city escape. Its a 30-40 minute ferry ride from Hong Kong Island and yet you could swear you were a long haul flight from any signs of city life. The island is an eclectic mix of fishing boats, seafood restaurants, cute cafes, and tiny stores. The island is small enough to explore by foot, but bicycles are common too. Ferries to Lamma leave from Aberdeen and the Central Piers.

Steal some moments, away from the noise of the city in this village on Lamma Island. The peaceful surrounding and the laid-back lifestyle gives you a perfect chance to know each other better. It is a romantic experience to watch the sun paint the sky in shades of red and yellow as it slowly disappears behind the mountains.

While Lamma is the third largest island in Hong Kong, it is still quite small, as its land area is only around 13 square kilometers (around 5 square miles). The population on Lamma is around 6,000, with most people living on the northern side of the island. There are no cars, no commercial businesses, and no structures over 3 stories. At least 75% of the land is undeveloped, so there are lots of snakes, spiders, centipedes and even wild boar.

In the main village of Yung Shue Wan, there are enough small shops, bars and restaurants. You have to take a 25 minute ferry to Central on Hong Kong island before catching a bus, train or taxi. But in any case, it has a beautiful way of life. You can hurl a rock in the ocean from your balcony, while viewing the sun set upon Lantau Island.

Sit on the on the outside seating area on the upper deck of the ferry, with a glass of sauvignon blanc, watching the birds fly into the horizon. There are dozens of smaller islands with less people. It's a lifestyle quite different than what most people think of when they think of Hong Kong.

Where To Stay During A Hong Kong Honeymoon

Finding the perfect accommodation is one of the most important aspects of planning a honeymoon. You have to consider the budget, aesthetics, comfort, services, and location of the property before booking your room or suite. Here are some of the best stay options for couples that you must consider while planning your honeymoon:

  • Island Shangri-La Hong Kong
  • W Hong Kong
  • Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong
  • The Peninsula Hong Kong
  • The Upper House
  • InterContinental Hong Kong

Among 5-star hotels in Hong Kong, Ritz Carlton occupies the top floors of ICC, which is the tallest building in HK, so if you like the best possible aerial views of the city, Ritz Carlton is a no brainer. There's a bar on top of the hotel call Ozone which I believe is also the highest bar in the world and actually offers an open air area at 118th floor.

The Cantonese restaurant Tin Loong Heen is also 1 Michelin Star, a bit westernised but worth a try. ICC is located on a big high end shopping mall called Elements, which offers mostly high-end brands. The mall is connected by subway and airport express, so you are 1 subway stop or 10min cab/Uber away from central/HK island and 10min cab ride away from TST in Kowloon. However make sure you get the harbour view rooms/suites otherwise you are stuck with a pretty boring Kowloon view.

W is right next to the Ritz Carlton, it's located in one of the twin towers but the height is dwarfed by the Ritz, and the view is obstructed by the buildings around it including ICC. It's a W so it's posh and more “stylish” than most of the boring 5 star hotels out there but it depends on your taste. It has a high floor open air pool area to relax.

Compared to the two newer properties above, Pennisula is the classic, luxury and iconic hotel of HK. It's got history and is almost a heritage site. It's located very close to the harbour and within walking distance to the ferry terminal. It's also a 5 minutes walk to Harbour City, probably the most comprehensive shopping complex in HK, where you can find most of the mid to high-end brands you could think of.

The higher floor Harbour facing rooms will offer you a breathtaking view of HK. (However Intercontinental right across the street is the closest you could get to the harbour and the view is even more “in your face”, in a good way of course.) If you want to visit HK island it's better to catch the ferry instead of a cab due to the traffic, the ferry ride itself is a must try.

It's located in the heart of CDB so you have a much wider access of restaurants and shopping compared to the Ritz Carlton, which is a 5 min cab ride away. Given your choice hotels and their price tags you would expect to receive the best service in HK, but be warned that the standard rooms in HK are usually quite small.
